How does Machines4u work?

Machines4u is a marketplace that brings buyers and sellers together in one easy to use site. As Australia’s most comprehensive marketplace for machinery, you have access to the most up-to-date information available. All adverts that you find on Machines4u are listed by the dealer or private seller and managed online with a user login. Buyers and sellers deal directly, free from a middle man and associated commissions.

How do I contact the seller?

Click on the ‘Phone Details’ button on the right hand side of any advert. You will be able to contact the seller directly. If you buy machinery regularly, enjoy the full benefits of the site by registering for free .

I have forgotten my password. What do I do?

Click on ‘Sign In’ the top right hand corner of any page. Then enter your email address in ‘Lost your Password?’ section to reset the password. Or click here

I have forgotten my username. What do I do?

Your username is the email that you signed up with. Check for an email sent to you from machines4u email ie info@machines4u.com.au. This email will contain your username and password.

Why should I advertise with Machines4u?

Who can buy machinery through Machines4u?

Whether in Australia or overseas, anyone can purchase machinery through Machines4u.

Can I sell machinery through the Machines4u?

Only Australian dealers and private sellers can list machinery on Machines4u. Machinery must be available in Australia.

Does it cost to buy through Machines4u?

No, buyers can search, compare and buy machinery from any advertiser on machines4u.com.au free of charge.

Am I a dealer or a private seller?

You are classified as a dealer if you buy, sell or exchange, or offer to buy, sell or exchange 6 or more articles of machinery in any 12 month period. You are a private seller if you are selling private used machinery. Private adverts placed by machinery dealers are automatically suspended.

Can overseas buyers buy my machinery?

Yes, overseas buyers can access your adverts and purchase your machinery. But you can choose not to receive emails from them in your account settings. As with any online sale you need to be aware of common scams when dealing with overseas buyers.

How much does it cost to sell machinery on Machines4u?

Dealers pay a fixed advertising fees which is determined by the rate card. To enquire about becoming a dealer click here.

How do I sign up as a private user?

How do I search for machinery in Machines4u?

From the homepage or after you click on buy, you’ll see a ‘Search machinery’ box, select the industry, category, subcategory, location, enter any keywords, choose used, used or hire and hit ‘Search’. If you can’t find what you are looking for, you can register for Machine Alerts. You’ll be the first to know when a machine you want is available.

How do I resize my pictures?

The file size appears next to the file name in your computer’s directory e.g. Windows Explorer. You can either resize a picture by adjusting the ‘Image Size’ or the ‘Image Resolution’. To resize pictures: 1. Open the picture in an image editor such as Microsoft Paint, Microsoft Photo Editor or Adobe Photoshop. 2. Check the ‘Image’ menu for a resizing option e.g. ‘Image Size’, ‘Resize’ or ‘Stretch’. 3. Give the picture a new size. Make the maximum length ‘800 pixels’. The length of the other side of the picture will adjust automatically to maintain the proportions. 4. Most photo editors, except for Paint, enable you to change the resolution from the same menu option. Enter ’72 dpi’, which is suitable for online use. If you are using Microsoft Paint, don’t worry about this step. 5. Once you’ve resized the picture, save as a new name (so you hang on to your original file). Make sure you save it as a ‘jpeg’ then check the file size by returning to your directory.

When and why should I remove my advert?

Machines that are sold should be removed from Machines4u within 48 hours. This ensures the marketplace remains current and gives the best results for buyers and sellers. You will always seem more professional to buyers if your adverts only show available machinery.

How do I edit/remove my advert?

Go to ‘My machines4u’ and select the ‘Live Adverts’ link from left side menu. Click on Edit/Remove Adverts.

How do I relist my advert?

Log into your account with your email and password, locate your expired or removed advert in the “Mymachines4u” section of the site. Click the relist button on the advert and follow the steps to get the advert live.

How long does my advert stay live?

If you are a Machines4u dealer, your advert will remain live until your machine is sold and you remove it from the site. If you are a private seller, your advert will remain on the site for 3 months or 6 months depending on the advert you purchased. If your advert sells before this time, ensure you remove the advert to eliminate unnecessary calls and email enquiries.

I would like to place a private advert but the site is not taking my credit card?

Machines4u accepts VISA and Mastercard only for private adverts.

I’ve advertised my machine for a while and it hasn’t sold yet. What can I do to sell it faster?

Login to ‘My Machines4u’ and click on ‘Advert Statistics’ under Summary. You’ll be able to see statistics on how many times your advert has been viewed. This can help you decide what changes you should implement to sell your machine faster. For example, if the statistics show there have been lots of views, but these are not leading to enough enquiries, perhaps the photo needs be replaced with a better one or include the maximum amount of photos, or maybe you need to adjust the price slightly.

Why was my advert removed?

At times adverts are removed if they breach our Advertising Rules and/or to uphold the quality of the marketplace. If you advert is removed, you’ll be sent an email advising the reason for the removal. Please sign in and revise your advert to make sure it appears live again. Continued breaches of our advertising rules may result in suspension of a seller’s profile.

How do I update my email address and other contact details?

Click on ‘Sign In‘ the top right hand corner of any page. Enter your Username and Password and login. Once you’ve signed in, click on ‘Edit Account’ in the top right hand corner. Click on the ‘Edit’ button in the bottom right hand corner.

Which browsers does Machines4u support?

I’m a private seller, how can I get a receipt for an advert I submitted?

An invoice will be emailed to you as soon as you complete your advert including payment. I saw an advert that I don’t think should be online as it doesn’t follow your Advertising Rules. How can I let you know that it should be removed? If you see an advert that doesn’t fit with our Advertising Rules, to help maintain a quality marketplace, please report it. Click on the ‘Report Incorrect Detail’ link that you’ll find in every advert. We will then review it and if it doesn’t fit, we will remove it.

I’ve sent the seller the funds but the machine has not been released

Although we’ve never heard of this happening to a Machines4u buyer, we have precautions in place. Unfortunately, we are unable to interfere in the private transactions between a buyer and a seller however, if you can provide us with a letter of complaint, we will keep this on permanent file under the seller’s records.

What sort suspicious behaviour should I look out for?

There are many types of scams that exist, many of which are email based. If any seller claims to be unable to speak to you in person, or unable to show you the equipment exercise extreme caution, they are likely a scammer.

You should exercise extreme caution, especially with people who; – Are overseas – Request payment via Western Union or other instant cash transfer method Request that you send goods before you receive payment Claim to have a friend/agent who can pay you an amount greater than the value of your goods, then ask you to send them the difference. What are the payment steps for private advertising?

Placing a private advert for a piece of equipment is easy:

  1. Join as a new user or log in to your existing account
  2. Select the type of advert you require & enter equipment detail & photos
  3. Pay for you advert via credit card through our secure payment gateway
  4. A tax invoice for your payment is delivered to you by email
  5. Your advert is reviewed by our content team and is online within 1 business day

Do sellers offer returns or refunds?

Your legal right to return goods:
As an Australian consumer or business, you have a legal right to return goods purchased from a business and to obtain a repair, replacement or refund if the goods:
-Are faulty or develop a fault within a reasonable period of time after purchase Are not fit for purpose (i.e. they don’t do what the seller said they would do)
-Don’t match the seller’s description or sample Are of unacceptable quality, or Fail to meet other mandatory consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law.

Consumer guarantee basics
If a product fails to meet one or more of the consumer guarantees, you can claim a remedy from the seller, such as: A replacement or refund for a major failure, and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage A replacement or repair if the goods otherwise fail to be of acceptable quality To exercise these rights, the buyer should contact the Seller and may be required to return the goods and to provide proof of purchase. Remember, your rights to a return, replacement or refund for faulty or non-compliant goods are in addition to any other rights under the seller’s return policy or any warranty that comes with the goods. To use your rights, contact the seller, who may ask you to return the goods. Please note: Consumer guarantees don’t apply if you: Have simply changed your mind, found the product cheaper elsewhere, or decided you don’t like or need the product, Misused a product and have caused or contributed to the failure of the goods, for example, by damaging or misusing the goods

On machines4u, sellers set a return policy for different equipment they want to sell. Sellers may allow you to return goods if you make an incorrect choice or change your mind, although they’re not required to do so by law. It’s important to examine the seller’s return policy carefully before you commit to buy the item.

What to look for in a return policy
Does the seller accept returns for incorrect choice or change of mind? If so: Under what circumstances can you return the item? For example, does the item need to be in the unopened box it was posted in or can you return an opened box with all of the original materials? Do you have to notify the seller within a certain time period that you plan to return the item? (For example, within 14 days after the item is delivered to you.) What kind of refund does the seller provide? (Money back, item exchange, etc.) Who pays for return freight and packing – you or the seller? Does the seller charge a restocking fee?

About warranties
Some sellers and manufacturers often offer warranties on their goods. It’s important to find out what kind of warranty is offered and, in particular: How you go about returning goods under the warranty Where you will need to send the goods Who will bear the return postage costs. This is especially important for international purchases. This information should be included in the warranty documents, otherwise you can ask the seller. Also, remember that if the seller or manufacturer do not offer a warranty or if a warranty has expired, this does not limit your rights under the Australian Consumer Law relating to defective and non-complying goods.
