Craftsmen, furniture-makers, whittlers, carvers and wood fiends alike can rejoice in the return of the Maleny Wood Expo 2017. The show will take place from April 29th to May 1st at the outdoor Maleny Showgrounds. The Expo is a canvas for woodworkers to show off their artisan furniture, hand-crafted toys and chainsaw skills before bustling crowds of eager wood enthusiasts.
The Maleny Wood Expo blends marketplace with live performance, bringing the best wares and craftsmen to the Sunshine Coast for one long weekend. Boasting some of the finest wooden ornaments from both contemporary woodworkers and Australian traditionalists, there’s something for everyone. If you’re looking for a more incomplete product, the festival also carries various wood grains and materials for woodworkers to take home and get carving.
Maleny’s ToolShed feature will gather the latest woodwork tools and a range of timbers to inspire potential craftsmen to give it a knock. If visitors find themselves with all the gear and no idea, the Expo has live demos and shows to show how the professionals put pieces together. These shows will cover easy DIY projects and beginner techniques, while promoting education about the future of sustainable woodwork.
The Wootha prize will return to the Expo, giving away thousands of dollars worth of cash prizes and certificates. Inviting Australia’s best wood hobbyists, carpenters, cabinet makers and carvers to battle it out for the title of best wood work piece, this year’s theme being ‘inside out’. Kids can also get a kick out of the program, with junior workshops set up to carve some early woodwork projects.
Got some home crafted wooden wares you think people would want to see? Well, the expo is still accepting exhibitors. With a huge range of products and demos, the Maleny Wood Expo has the potential to introduce thousands of hobbyists and professionals to new companies.
