Men’s Health Week is an important seven days no matter where you are in the world. From June the 12-18th the nation will stand in solidarity with Australian men, recognizing the significance of men’s mental health issues while promoting awareness of the male approach to health.
Statistics have shown that more males will commit suicide, that more males will die at every stage of life and more males suffer from lifestyle-related health conditions than females of the same age.
Although men are experiencing shorter and less healthy lives, they are still less likely to visit medical practitioners. The precedent has been set that men are not concerned with their own mental health, or that the available health services are not engaging with men effectively.
Men’s Health Week seeks to resolve these issues by raising awareness of preventable health problems and encouraging the early detection and treatment of physical and mental diseases among men and boys. Since the 2000’s Men’s Health Week has operated in Australia, opening a forum for the discussion of the issues central to men’s health within the nation.
