{"id":26381,"date":"2019-05-23T11:28:30","date_gmt":"2019-05-23T01:28:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.machines4u.com.au\/mag\/?p=26381"},"modified":"2022-03-29T13:23:59","modified_gmt":"2022-03-29T03:23:59","slug":"autonomous-trucking-rio-tintos-future-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.machines4u.com.au\/mag\/autonomous-trucking-rio-tintos-future-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Autonomous Trucking Revs Up With Rio Tinto\u2019s Mine of the Future Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than a decade ago, mining giant Rio Tinto introduced fully autonomous haul trucks as part of their Mine of the Future program. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rio Tinto&#8217;s former CEO Sam Walsh told <em>zdnet.com<\/em> how the company revolutionised the industry\u2019s approach to integrated mining. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I smile when I hear the rush to develop autonomous vehicles by Uber, Google, and pretty well every car company on planet Earth,&#8221; said Walsh. &#8220;Rio was the first mining company to introduce fully-autonomous haul trucks in 2008.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Related:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"\/mag\/light-vehicle-automation-hits-mine-wa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Light Vehicle Automation Hits Mine Site in WA<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Future of Mining<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And now, Caterpillar will provide Rio Tinto with a fleet of 20 autonomous 793F trucks and 4 autonomous blast drills, through WA dealer WesTrac.
