AMOB UK Completes Installation of eMOB 225 at Navantia UK’s Appledore Shipyard
Presented by AMOB
Following successful Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) in Portugal, AMOB UK has completed the installation and commissioning of an eMOB 225 fully electric CNC pipe bending machine at Navantia UK’s Appledore shipyard in North Devon.
The machine forms part of Navantia UK’s ongoing investment in manufacturing capability at Appledore and will support pipe production for marine, naval, and heavy industrial fabrication projects.
From Factory Acceptance Testing to Installation
Prior to delivery, the eMOB 225 underwent Factory Acceptance Testing at AMOB’s manufacturing facility, allowing Navantia UK engineers to assess machine performance, bending accuracy, and process control before shipment to the UK.
Following delivery to Appledore, the AMOB UK engineering team completed installation, commissioning, and operator training to ensure the machine was ready for production.

Large-Capacity Fully Electric Pipe Bending
At 53 tonnes, the eMOB 225 is the largest machine in AMOB’s fully electric tube and pipe bending range.
Developed for large-diameter and heavy-wall applications, the machine is capable of processing carbon steel, stainless steel, and other industrial pipe materials used throughout the marine and defence sectors.
The fully electric platform provides several advantages for manufacturers, including:
- Precise servo-controlled axis movement
- High levels of repeatability between parts
- Reduced hydraulic maintenance requirements
- Lower energy consumption compared with traditional hydraulic systems
- Greater process control across complex bending operations
These characteristics make the machine particularly well suited to industries where consistency, traceability, and repeatable production are important.

Supporting Manufacturing Capability at Appledore
The completion of the new pipe shop represents another milestone in the ongoing development of Appledore shipyard.
Bringing advanced pipe bending capability in-house gives the facility greater control over production scheduling, component quality, and manufacturing flexibility while supporting future marine and defence projects.
Tom Wood, Managing Director of AMOB UK, said:
“The successful installation of the eMOB 225 at Appledore reflects the close collaboration between the teams at AMOB and Navantia UK throughout the project. From Factory Acceptance Testing through to final commissioning, it has been a pleasure working together to deliver this significant investment in UK manufacturing capability.”
Laura Correa Mendioroz, General Manager of Navantia UK Appledore, said:
“This is another important moment in Appledore’s transformation and in rebuilding advanced manufacturing capability here in North Devon. The completion of the Pipe Shop gives our workforce access to cutting-edge technology and represents a major investment in the future capability of the yard. It reflects the long-term commitment being made to Appledore, to our people, and to ensuring the shipyard remains a centre of skilled industrial expertise for years to come.”
Looking Ahead
AMOB UK would like to thank the leadership, procurement, engineering, and production teams at Navantia UK for their collaboration throughout the project.
We look forward to supporting the Appledore team in the years ahead as the eMOB 225 enters production and contributes to the next generation of marine and naval manufacturing projects in the UK.
