13-Part Series To Help You Get The Most Out Of Machines4U

Module 2

Which of your stock should you list now, and which can you leave for later?

Not all sellers are the same. Some only deal in hire equipment, others new or used. So, to ensure every machinery buyer and seller is accommodated, the Machines4U platform is purpose-built to put your products front and centre.

Getting your products online is one of the most important things you can do. Which is why this article is all about:

• What you should list now, and what you can leave for later

• How your old, used machinery can help you sell new models

• Where to find your inventory list

• The importance of removing ads once your machines have sold

• How often you should update your showroom

What Should You List Now?

Do you have machinery that outperforms the rest, in terms of sales? Usually 20% of a business’ products will produce most of their sales, and most of their profit.

So, we recommend listing these first and putting your best foot forward. Start small by putting up your top 5 selling pieces of equipment and then add your top 5 parts.

Why list your parts and not more machinery? Well, there’s a lot of demand out there for parts and sometimes that’s where you can get your leads from. Someone in the market for parts has a machine that’s not performing, so you could use this as an opportunity to show them a newer piece of equipment.

Uploading a few top pieces of equipment first will also give you a good idea of what it takes to list an individual ad. It’s pretty quick and easy. And, if you start with what gets you the best results already, you’re more likely to start seeing results faster.

Things to remember

1. On average, 20% of business’ products produce most of their profit

2. List machinery parts to draw in more leads

3. Start with what gets you the best results already

How Your Old, Used Machinery Can Help You Sell New Models

Have you ever thought about getting rid of all of your used equipment and only selling new? It’s a tempting thought, and we understand why so many choose to do just that. But, it might be time to think again.

While this is a great accounting decision, it will reflect poorly on sales. And it probably means you’ll miss out on a lot of enquiries.

Why? Because, most buyers start their research phase looking at used, more affordable machinery. So, if you have used equipment gathering dust in the back shed, you can use it to your advantage. Leverage it to draw in the buyer, then showcase your new piece of equipment at a cost-friendly finance price point.

It’s not a stretch, because by the time you draw up the financing, it’s likely the price of the used machine will actually be similar to a new machine, over a longer term. Check out this article.

Things to remember

1. Keep used machinery in stock to draw in leads

2. Most buyers will enquire on used machinery before new

3. Use your lead on used machinery to convert to a new sale

4. Used machinery finance on a shorter term often has a similar weekly cost to new machinery on a longer term

Where To Find Your Inventory List

No matter if your machinery is sitting in a sales yard or your backyard, you’ll have an inventory list of your stock.

To have that machinery sitting there, you had to buy it from somewhere. So you must have a list of all the machinery you’ve purchased. That’s your inventory.

Now, knowing what’s in your inventory helps you not only keep on top of your stock availability, but also allows you to know the margin you’ll make on each piece of equipment.

If your machinery is on your website or uploaded elsewhere, ask your account manager how you can easily upload them to Machines4U.

Things to remember

1. The machinery you’ve purchased is your inventory list

2. With an inventory list you can easily see stock availability

3. Your stock list allows you to know the margins you’ll make

4. Your account manager can help you upload your inventory list

Why You Should Remove Ads Once Your Machines Have Sold

After your machinery has sold, it’s really important that you remove the ad. Stale content does not work for the marketplace, and it doesn’t work for you as a seller.

Imagine seeing a machine you’re interested in, calling the seller and finding out the machine is out of stock, or sold. You’d be pretty annoyed, right? Well, that’s exactly how your potential buyer feels when you leave your sold machinery on the marketplace.

It might even reflect poorly on you, because buyers will lose trust if you never have anything in stock or if they feel like they’ve wasted their time sending an enquiry for a sold machine. So, make sure you’re removing your ads to create a better buyer experience.

There’s also the added benefit of supply and demand. Think about it, if you go to a restaurant and it’s packed, you’d assume that the food is good, right? The same can be said of your listings. If your machines are going up and selling quickly, buyers are going to notice. And they’re going to want a piece of the pie in fear of missing out.

Things to remember

1. Stale content doesn’t work on a marketplace

2. Leaving sold machinery ads online creates a poor buyer experience

3. Buyers become annoyed and lose trust if they enquire on out-of-stock or sold machinery

4. Regularly removing ads for machinery you’ve sold keeps your showroom up to date

How Often Should You Update Your Showroom

Running a business is tough, so to make sure you remember to remove your ads and keep your listings up to date, try setting a weekly calendar reminder.

Maybe you block out every Friday from 8-9AM, or maybe it’s Monday at 8PM, but whatever time it is, make it at least once a week. You should be updating your showroom as often as possible. Some members go in and update daily, that’s what you’re up against.

Things to remember

1. Set a calendar reminder (we recommend weekly) to update your Machines4U showroom

2. Set aside time each week (1 hour minimum) to remove and update listings

3. The more regularly you update, the more accurate your showroom

So, there you have it. That’s how you can put your products front and centre to bring buyers to your ads and make the most of your Machines4U membership. In the next module, you’ll learn how to create quality content.
