Dananni celebrates 25-year IVECO partnership with new Daily models

Having taken its first delivery of IVECO Daily trucks in 2001, leading Perth transport company, Dananni HOTSHOTS, recently welcomed six new models to the fleet, bringing the current total to 22.

While the company offers customers a diverse range of transport services, it’s perhaps best known for its ‘hotshots’, where the team can be called on 24/7, 365 days a year to deliver equipment, spare parts and other vital supplies to clients in the mining, oil and exploration sectors.

The stakes are high in these industries – machinery breakdowns can quickly cost hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost revenue due to unforeseen downtime, meaning timely delivery of replacement components is critical.

Dananni HOTSHOTS Director, Danni Kempton, said the IVECO Daily was an ideal platform for the application.

“There are plenty of good reasons why we’ve been using IVECO Daily for 25 years,” Danni said.

“They’re a very easy model to operate, live with and maintain, and they’ve been incredibly reliable – we’ve now owned over 40 units since 2001, and some have covered close to a million kilometres.

“Looking at the different brands of trucks that I have in my yard, if I were to choose the most reliable one, it would be the IVECO Daily.”

The company has owned over 40 Daily units since 2001 and cites their reliability, comfort, easy maintenance and fit-for-task specification as the key reasons for ongoing use of the model.

Dananni HOTSHOTS’ fleet of Daily trucks are predominantly 70C models which are cleverly specified to answer the call. All the vehicles are customised with ADR 42-compliant sleeper cabins, meaning two-up drivers can cover large distances sharing driving duties while also getting required rest. Other features include steel trays, bull bars, ancillary lighting, satellite tracking and long-range fuel tanks that allow the trucks to cover up to 3,000km before refuelling.

Predominantly 70C models, the Dailys spearhead Dananni’s ‘hotshots’ service, where they can be called on 24/7, 365 days a year to deliver critical freight to customers.

During deliveries, the Dailys can cover vast distances from the company’s Perth base, often travelling to the north of the state, into the Northern Territory, Northern Queensland and as far southeast as Tasmania.

Given the distances and myriad of road conditions the trucks deal with, most are equipped with IVECO’s optional Electronically Controlled Air Suspension, making for a more supple ride for the driving crews, while also providing smoother haulage for sensitive cargo, including detonators for the mining sector.

While many transport operators are finding it difficult to attract and retain driving talent, Danni said that this wasn’t an issue for Dananni and its fleet of Dailys.

Vehicles feature ADR 42-compliant sleeper cabins, steel trays, bull bars, ancillary lighting, satellite tracking and long-range fuel tanks that allow the trucks to cover up to 3,000km before refuelling.

“We’re fortunate to have drivers who have been with us for many years,” Danni said.

“The Dailys are a favourite among the drivers – they look the part and are also very comfortable and car-like to drive, there are no complaints. We have several husband-and-wife teams who drive together, and their relationships have endured in the Dailys!”

Dananni HOTSHOTS’ latest Dailys feature the proven 3.0l Euro 6 (Step E) engines which produce 180hp and 430Nm of torque; these are matched to IVECO’s smooth shifting H-Matic, 8-speed fully automatic transmission and offer 7t GVM. According to Danni, the combination works well.

“The Daily engines give us the performance we need to comfortably handle the work and are also quite fuel efficient, which is obviously important given the cost of fuel,” she said.

“They’re built tough as well with a strong full-length chassis that handle Australian conditions and are well equipped with safety features.”

“General servicing and maintenance on the trucks is also cost effective.”

“We go back to Perth IVECO for servicing during the warranty period and after that, this work is done at our in-house workshop. We have experienced mechanics and they enjoy maintaining the trucks – compared to many other brand trucks, everything is easily accessible on the Dailys; adding equipment like spotlights, emergency lighting and other accessories is also simple.”

“And the interiors are easy to clean and the paint doesn’t fade. For an owner, it’s all the little things that go a long way.”

Danni Kempton presents Perth IVECO Sales Manager – Light Truck & Van, Craig Maddox, a plaque to celebrate the company’s long-standing partnership with IVECO.
