Stronger Together: Hyster NZ Celebrates 80 Years of Excellence joining Adaptalift Group

Presented by Adaptalift Group

In a milestone year, Hyster New Zealand proudly celebrates 80 years of materials handling leadership, marking eight decades of trusted service to Kiwi industries. As part of this celebration, Hyster NZ begins an exciting new chapter now operating as Adaptalift Group in New Zealand.

Founded in 1945 as Gough Materials Handling, Hyster NZ has a long-standing reputation for reliability, innovation, and premium forklift and materials handling solutions. Following its 2020 rebrand to ‘Hyster NZ’ under Sime Darby Transport (NZ) Ltd, the company continued to deliver on Hyster’s global legacy.

Now, in 2025, the transition into the Adaptalift Group — one of Australia’s leading providers of fleet management and integrated materials handling solutions, marks the beginning of a new era of capability and growth.

“Hyster New Zealand is a strong business with deep customer relationships, great technical expertise, and a nationwide footprint,” said Steven Taylor, CEO of Adaptalift Group.

“Our initial focus is on supporting business continuity, working closely with the team and customers to ensure service levels are maintained and optimised. We want to develop a deep understanding of where we can best add value to existing customers — through product knowledge, technology solutions, and access to a wide parts inventory.”

What This Means for Customers

The integration opens the door to an expanded suite of products and solutions, increased support capabilities, and greater trans-Tasman opportunities for customers. Immediate benefits include:

  • Broader product and solution offerings across materials handling, fleet management, safety, and automation — backed by Adaptalift’s diverse brand portfolio.
  • Stronger national parts supply, service networks, technical expertise, and telematics capabilities, enhancing safety, uptime, and performance.
  • Seamless support for major account customers with trans-Tasman operations, thanks to a united presence across Australia and New Zealand.
  • Ongoing access to Hyster’s trusted brand and expert support teams — now with enhanced backing from Adaptalift’s infrastructure and systems.

Importantly, the change will be seamless for existing customers, who will continue working with the same experienced team they know and trust, while gaining access to expanded capabilities and support infrastructure.

“At Adaptalift Group, we’re constantly asking: How can we deliver better outcomes, where can we remove complexity and what else can we do to help our customers win?”, said Ryan Hosking, New Zealand Manager, Adaptalift Group.

“That mindset drives us to innovate, simplify, and improve — not just in our products and service delivery, but in how we support our customers and one another.”

Together, Adaptalift Group and Hyster NZ are stronger — building on 80 years of local New Zealand expertise as well as over 45 years of Australian expertise to deliver next-generation solutions for tomorrow’s materials handling needs.

Celebrating 80 Years. Looking Forward Together.
