SMTCL VMC1600H Vertical Machining Centre
The SMTCL VMC1600H is a large-capacity vertical machining centre within SMTCL’s VMC-H general-purpose machining centre range.
Designed for precision machining of medium to large engineering components, the VMC1600H combines a generous machining envelope with high rigidity, stable accuracy and practical production capability. It supports milling, drilling, boring and tapping operations across general engineering, manufacturing, energy, fabrication and production applications.
With X/Y/Z travels of 1600 / 825 / 700 mm and an 800 × 1700 mm worktable, the VMC1600H provides substantial capacity for machining larger plates, housings, structural components, fixtures and other high-value workpieces.
The VMC1600H uses a BT50 spindle platform, making it particularly suitable for larger workpieces and applications where stronger cutting capability and machining stability are required.
Key Machine Features
• 1600 mm X-axis travel
• 825 mm Y-axis travel

Machine Construction and Accuracy
The VMC-H platform uses high-strength cast-iron structural components combined with optimised structural design to improve rigidity and machining stability.
C3-grade precision ballscrews use pre-tensioning technology to reduce the influence of thermal expansion on axis positioning accuracy and improve long-term precision retention.
P-grade roller linear guideways provide high load capacity, rigidity and stable axis movement. Larger H Series machines, including the VMC1600H, use a four-guideway arrangement on key axes to support higher machining loads.
The spindle assembly is designed for high rigidity, accuracy and stable machining performance.
Typical Applications
The VMC1600H is well suited to machining:
• Large plates
• Machine housings
• Gearbox and transmission housings
• Fixtures and tooling plates
• Structural engineering components
• Energy-sector components
• General machinery components
• Fabrication-related machined parts
• Large precision components
• Medium-volume production components
Its larger work envelope makes it particularly suitable for workshops that have outgrown smaller VMC platforms but still require the flexibility and accessibility of a vertical machining centre.
VMC Series Selection Guide
SMTCL offers several Vertical Machining Centre series for different machining requirements.
VMC B Series – Classical General-Purpose Platform
The B Series is SMTCL’s classical vertical machining centre platform.
It is suited to workshops requiring dependable CNC milling capability for everyday machining work, with emphasis on practicality, versatility and overall value.
Best suited for:
• General engineering
• Job shops
• Maintenance machining
• Fabrication support
• Standard milling, drilling and tapping work
• Customers prioritising capability and value
VMC H Series – General-Purpose Vertical Machining Centres
The H Series is positioned as SMTCL’s general-purpose vertical machining centre range.
It combines machining versatility with higher rigidity, precision retention and a broad range of machine sizes. The series covers smaller general-purpose machines through to larger-capacity models such as the VMC1300H and VMC1600H.
The VMC1600H is one of the largest machines in the H Series and provides significantly increased table size and machining capacity while retaining the flexible general-purpose character of the platform.
Best suited for:
• General precision machining
• Medium to large engineering components
• Larger plates and housings
• Production machining
• Higher-value components
• Workshops requiring a versatile machine across a wide range of work
VMC Q Series – High-Efficiency Vertical Machining Centres
The Q Series is positioned as SMTCL’s high-efficiency vertical machining centre range.
It is designed for customers placing greater emphasis on speed, productivity and efficient production. Key models use roller linear guideways, pre-tensioned ballscrews and rapid traverse speeds up to 48 m/min.
Best suited for:
• Higher-productivity machining
• Automotive components
• Aluminium machining
• Precision component production
• Batch manufacturing
• Applications where cycle time and rapid axis movement are important
How to Choose Between B, H and Q
Choose the B Series if you need a proven and practical general-purpose VMC with strong overall value.
Choose the H Series if you need a versatile general-purpose platform with higher rigidity, stable precision and a broader choice of machining capacities.
Choose the Q Series if machining efficiency, fast axis movement and production productivity are the main priorities.
The three series should not be viewed simply as low, medium and high grades. Each platform is designed around a different balance of machining capability, productivity, work envelope and application requirements.
Configuration Before Quotation
Final machine configuration should be selected according to the intended workpiece and production process.
Please confirm requirements including:
• Workpiece material
