The ARROW 750XL is a true slipformer capable of high speed kerbing using concrete within the slump range 25m to 45mm. The machine can be fitted with both offset and inboard hoppers and moulds as detailed in the attached specification sheet and is capable of forming sections to maximum width of 1500mm inboard and 1000mm offset. The machine offered is powered by a YANMAR 3 cylinder water cooled diesel engine close coupled to a Rexroth hydraulic pump which provides power for all functions. The drive on ARROW 750XL is by a hydraulically driven steel track similar to that used on small excavators. This track drive propels the machine forward and reverse at speeds of up to 15 metres/min. Normal kerb only speeds of up to 15 metres/min. and kerb and channel up to 6-10 metres/min are easily achieved.
ARROW MACHINERY has chosen to use the best possible line sensing equipment on the ARROW 750XL and the equipment chosen is the industry standard on most kerbing and paving machines world wide. Steering, rear height and slope control uses fully proportional MOBA line sensor and servo valves in a totally matched system. In addition we have provided a remote slope set point control which allows the operator to tilt the machine "on the run" by dialing a slope variation into the automatics. This can tilt the machine by up to 91/2% in either direction. An optional front height sensor is available and is recommended for on base pouring of kerb and channel in particular. This combination of extremely accurate sensors will maintain level, line and slope to the tolerances required for kerbing construction.
The ARROW 750XL is the bigger brother to the already successful ARROW 750 which is now being sold in the U.S.A. and West Australia where the need for smaller kerb sections is more prodominant. This company has been building slipform machines for approximately 35 years and although there are not many of our machines in this country, we have exported our slipform products to USA, UK, South East Asia, South Africa, Canada, Mexico and South American countries where they have been well accepted. The ARROW 750 was awarded "Top 100 New Products Status" in the USA for the year 1991. The larger ARROW 750XL has repeated this award in 1993.
It should be pointed out that preparation of the base should be accurate to grade and should not be overdepth by more than 15-20mm. Overdepth preparation can result in boil out under the mould skids which can if excessive affect the top of kerb height. To help overcome this, moulds may be fitted with optional spring loaded skids which if maintained correctly can prevent this boil-out.
The slipform process is somewhat different to extrusion in that much wetter concrete is used and vibrated prior to entering the mould. There is a need for staff to be trained and to accept the different methods. There is also a need for owners to realise prior to purchase that the finish from slipform machines is different to that of the older extruders. The slipform by vibration brings a "slurry" to the surface which is "finished" by the trailing edge of the mould. The quality of this slurry is different to that used by the extruders and the resulting finish is not quite the same.
However with minor mix design changes to suit local conditions an excellent result can be obtained. The greatest advantages of slipform over extrusion are the use of wetter concrete vibrated (resulting in more uniform higher strengths) and the speed of construction.
