The DX-70 produces digitally-printed sewn books composed of 4-page inserted signatures.
One single operator
Entire production process handled by one single operator.
Max 420 x 640 sheet size
Handles sheet sizes up to 420 x 640 mm
Top quality creasing operations
TECNIFOLD Tri-Creaser Fast Fit creasing unit
Product part excellence
OMRON automation technology and PEPPER & FUCHS industrial sensors.
Stability, speed and quality
High speed performance, Smyth sewing quality, and process stability.
Flat Pile feeder
The automatic feeder handles sheets up to a maximum 420 x 640 mm and is equipped with a self-adjusting sheet separation head and suction drum.
Alignment table
A double track of ball bearings transports and guides the sheets into the alignment guide. The unit is also available in an automatic version.
Double sheet detection
Pepper & Fuchs ultrasonic electronic sensors check each single sheet as they pass through the system, and stop the cycle in the event of double sheets.
Creasing
The Tecnifold Tri-Creaser Fast Fit creasing unit comprises three creasers, which are activated according to the weight of the sheet to be creased. Creaser replacement can be performed quickly without needing to remove the creaser shafts.
Folding station
Each sheet is cross folded into ‘four pages’. The folded sheets are guided and transported through the system by pulleys, which are, in turn, equipped with an adjustment system to increase/decrease the braking friction between the belts and paper sheets, depending on the type of paper.
Pressing station
Comprises a set of rubber wheels assembled on adjustable guide rails. The system checks the fold is perfectly positioned by aligning the individual 4-page inserted signatures before transferring them to the inserting station.
Variable collecting station
The 4 -page inserted sheets are cross folded to create individual signatures for the book block. The synchronized conveyor system moves the signatures into position on the fixed sewing machine saddle and then carefully guides them to the kicker wheel.
Heading up unit
The sewing machine is equipped with a combined heading up system to align the signatures. This system comprises a fixed header positioned at the tail of the signature, and a movable gripper on the head side to ensure the signature is perfectly aligned.
Delivery table
The sewing machine’s compact design guides and transports the sewn book blocks to the delivery table. The system facilitates operator unloading, while automatic book separation is also available upon request to simplify book transfer to the automatic Smyth Easystack stacker.
Operator Interface
A 9-inch touch screen monitor allows the operator to run the book program and monitor machine operating parameters.
Collecting sequence control
A high-speed Omron camera handles BARCODE or DATA MATRIX information and ensures an elevated degree of control is maintained over the sequence of printed sheets.
Reel feeder
A connected in-line WEB-FED version of the DX-70 is also available with automatic unwinding and cutting systems to produce digitally printed sewn book blocks from a reel.
