System Configuration
In a typical system, the booster pump uses a thick-walled UHP long tube to deliver UHP water to the cutting head. The tubing is very hard, so it has a large bending radius. This provides a smooth, consistent pipe for UHP water.
For many years, standard 2-axis and 3-axis waterjet machines have been used in two-dimensional applications. These machines can have a very large work area, 8 x 12 feet or larger. They use linear guides and CNC-based programming languages. For cutting 3D parts, consider using waterjet systems with 5, 6, or even 7 axes of motion.
The final 3-D cutting alternative is of course the robotic waterjet system. The robot can clamp and manipulate the workpiece under a fixed waterjet cutting head (a common configuration for castings), or the robot itself can carry and manipulate the waterjet cutting head.
Through intelligent fixture and overall system design, the robot with abrasive water jet cutting head can reach the top, bottom and middle of various part features. It can be installed on the wall, even upside down, or installed on the seventh-axis linear guide, which can carry it in a huge working range. In order to increase production, multiple waterjet cutting robots can work side by side, and can process multiple parts or the same part at the same time. With the correct pump and control configuration, the system can feed multiple robots working at the same time.
The horizontal range of a standard long-distance robot used for waterjets is approximately 122 inches. The vertical range of the wall-mounted robot is approximately 200 inches. The standard abrasive waterjet robot system has a working range of 75 x 88 inches, and other robot models with longer reach capabilities can be used for a larger working range.
The nozzle, high pressure tube and abrasive hopper are all installed on the robot. The abrasive material is fed into the nozzle mixing chamber through a tube. At the same time, the booster pump delivers high-pressure water through the coil.
Coil is a key component of the entire system
