German “Spannfuchs” Self-Centring Machine Vice for sale.
Very solid, well-made machine vice with swivelling base, stamped “Spannfuchs” F No. 1244.
This is a self-centring design, where the jaws move inwards and outwards evenly from both sides. This allows the workpiece to stay centred on the machine table, which is particularly useful for repeat setups and accurate positioning.
“Spannfuchs” is a German trade name used by Letsch & Lebherz (Bitz, Württemberg), a historical toolmaker known for producing clamping and workholding equipment. These are not commonly seen and are typical of older European workshop tooling built to a high standard.
Features:
Self-centring jaw mechanism (both sides move together)
Swivel base with angle scale
Stepped jaws for multiple clamping heights
Adjustable/sliding jaw blocks for flexible setups
Ground top surface
Heavy cast construction
Made in Germany
Approx. size: (see ruler photos)
Condition: Used condition. General wear consistent with workshop use. No obvious damage noted. Please refer to photos for a clear indication of condition and what is included.
Comments: A more specialised vice compared to standard fixed-jaw types. The self-centring action makes it ideal where keeping workpieces aligned to centre is important.
